
YogaBuds Equal Opportunities Policy
1. General Points
- YogaBuds affirms its commitment to fair and equitable treatment for all its learners and all potential learners. It seeks to encourage, support and value diversity among all learners.
- It aims to create the conditions whereby all students are treated on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential, regardless of gender, colour, ethnic or national origin, age, disability, religious or political beliefs, family circumstance or sexual orientation. It is firmly opposed to any form of unfair discrimination based on these attributes and values.
- Yogabuds will ensure that all processes associated with recruitment, admission, teaching and learning, progression and assessment are consistent with the provision of equal opportunities for learners.
- Yogabuds will develop policies to ensure that activities at the centre and relations with those outside are conducted in ways that are sensitive to the varied ethnic, religious and social background of learners and pupils in schools who the learners and graduates will be teaching.
- YogaBuds will provide training and development to enable future staff and teachers to deliver theses commitments.
- YogaBuds commitment to equal opportunities will be made explicit in arrangements with collaborative institutions and in contacts with other outside organisations including schools, local education authorities, professional accrediting bodies, research councils, sponsors and contractors.
2. Implementing the Policy
YogaBuds undertakes to:
- Assign responsibility for its development and implementation as a major part of the job description to a senior member of the management. This includes responsibility for the promotion of equal opportunities policies for students with respect to admissions and recruitment, learner support and guidance, curriculum design and content, teaching and promotion of learning.
- Foster an institutional commitment to equality of opportunity and monitoring of its effectiveness at all levels and ensure that this communicated to all learners and all future teaching staff.
- Set up procedures for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of this policy.
- Integrate into the quality assurance system the institutional commitment to equal opportunities for learners, especially in respect to monitoring and evaluating the implementation of this policy.
3. Admissions and Recruitment of Learners
- YogaBuds will promote equal opportunities for access to its courses and pursue positive recruitment policies to widen participation by groups traditionally underrepresented in yoga education.
- YogaBuds will build in appropriate and gender targets.
- YogaBuds will ensure that admissions procedures are clear and consistently applied with a concern for student’s abilities and potential to gain from the teacher-training course.
- Selection criteria and procedures will be monitored and reviewed to ensure that only necessary and justifiable criteria are applied. As much information as possible will be provided to allow potential learners to assess their own suitability to the course.
4. Disabled Learners
- YogaBuds is committed to increasing access for learners with specific educational needs and physical impairments in so far any special need or physical impairment will not impair the learner’s ability to teach primary children effectively and safely.
- YogaBuds will ensure that once accepted on to the course, positive efforts will be made to minimise any disadvantage experienced by the learner and will strive to provide the necessary support to overcome any difficulties caused by disablement.
5. Teaching and the Promotion of Learning
- YogaBuds will strive to develop content, methods of teaching learning and assessment that recognise and provide support for the needs of a wide range of students.
- YogaBuds will endeavour to provide academic and personal support and guidance services that are responsive to the needs of learners and take account of diverse cultural and social needs.
6. Grievances and Discipline Procedures
- Complaints of unfair discrimination or harassment by any participant of the course will be treated seriously and may be dealt with by the appropriate Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures.
- YogaBuds requires both tutors and learners to behave in a fair and non- discriminatory manner and expects the full support of everyone in changing practices that deny or limit equality. All learners and tutors have a duty to comply with this policy and any breach of this will be regarded as serious misconduct and dealt with accordingly.
7. Sexual and Racial Harassment
- YogaBuds is committed to the provision of a friendly and supportive environment within which teaching and learning can best take place. YogaBuds recognises that sexual and racial harassment can seriously impair working and social conditions for tutor and learners. Any incidents of harassment will be regarded extremely seriously and can be grounds for disciplinary action.
- YogaBuds will establish a set of procedures for dealing with complaints about all forms of sexual and racial harassment, and will issue clear guidelines to tutors and learners.
8. Monitoring and Review
- YogaBuds will collect sufficient and appropriate information to monitor and evaluate progress in implementing equal opportunities.
- All data collected will be stored securely and handled sensitively.
- All relevant statistical reports on the recruitment, retention, progression and classification of learners will contain ethnic, gender and disability monitoring data.
- YogaBuds will integrate into quality assurance procedures at all levels annual monitoring and evaluation of progress in meeting targets and taking action.
