Since its foundation by Michael Chissick in 1999, YogaBuds has provided yoga in mainstream primary and special needs schools as part of the school day. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from teachers, parents and the children has demonstrated that yoga is helping to improve the children’s concentration, their flexibility, their fitness, their behaviour and their overall sense of self worth.
The effects upon pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) have been remarkable; children are showing marked improvements in their communication skills, greater calm in threatening situations and the ability to relax.
YogaBuds are committed to seeing Yoga on the National Curriculum as an integral part of the development of pupils’ well being.
Michael Chissick B ED (Hons) BWY Dip.
Serving both mainstream and special needs schools, Michael is one of Britain's most successful and experienced teachers of Yoga to children. His expertise in teaching yoga to youngsters with special needs, for example with autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD and emotional behavioural problems, is outstanding.
Being a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher, a qualified primary school teacher and a specialist in children's self-esteem gives Michael an unrivalled breadth of experience. This enables him to help children address issues of kindness, friendship, anger, conflict and empathy through their yoga, using posture, story and games.
Invited to teach, lecture and demonstrate all over the UK to children, teachers, local education authorities and teacher training universities, Michael's sessions are challenging, educational, interactive, realistic, inspiring, provide an abundance of practical ideas and are great fun.
His organisation YogaBuds is dedicated to expanding the teaching of yoga in schools throughout Britain and funding research into the benefits of yoga on children with learning difficulties.
Michael has practised yoga for about 30 years, has two grown-up children and lives in Essex. His first book, Moving Stories, is published by Auer GMBH.
